Caroline Bennett and Cinda Serianni Present:Alternative Reality Challenge:
An Interactive Blended Compliance Training Experience
Using a blended learning approach is not new. The impact of delivering training across multiple delivery platforms has been proven to be an effective method for increasing effectiveness and knowledge retention. So what happens when you take the blended approach to a new level by injecting realistic scenarios and group activities and use this format to teach critical compliance information? You create an alternative reality challenge. This workshop will detail how Gilead Sciences Canada used a variety of online and offline tools as well as collaborative learning tactics to refresh and challenge employees’ understanding of key business compliance rules and procedures and key policy revisions—in a non-threatening, on-the-job context. Virtual colleagues, realistic scenarios, simulated physical props, and team-based activities were all part of this immersive training program. The learning experience culminated with live team-based presentations to management at a national business meeting. By addressing multiple key adult learning principles, it maximized the realization of the program’s learning objectives. Workshop attendees will learn how an alternative reality challenge can provide a practical, goal-oriented, and problem-centered learning platform, and enable employees to bring work-related experiences and knowledge to the learning experience.
